MWR Life is truly enriching the lives of people around the world! Six of our amazing Kenya Lifestyle Consultants, Brigitte Verbauwen, Bethuel Macharia, Mary Wairimu, Ever Rose Obwaka, Susan Ndiema, and Olivia Koech visited an orphanage in Kenya called the Mercy Children’s Home.
Mercy Children’s Home
This home was opened in 2001 by Consulate Aluch Muga with just two small rooms for ten children. A few years after opening their doors Mercy was able to grow to accommodate more children by renting housing adjacent to the current property. This arrangement continued until 2005 due to the need for more housing space for all of the children. Then in 2006, AAI joined with Consulate and purchased 4.5 acres of land to build more living quarters for the boys and girls as well as a new dining area. The boys and girls houses can now hold up to fifty children at a time and the Home teaches over 300 children a day from 8th grade to nursery level.
The children that have been brought to live at the Mercy Children’s Home have all come from the Local Children’s Welfare Department. Most children arrive traumatized from being neglected, abused, and malnourished. If they have not lost their parents they were given up. When arriving at the doors of the Home the children are welcomed warmly and receive counseling as well as a Social Worker to help them settle into their new surroundings. As these children escape the difficult environment that they were in they need help and support to regain control over their life. The Mercy Children’s Home is instrumental in the lives and care of these children, however, any additional help that is received can help transform their lives.
MWR Life Cares
When the MWR Life’s Kenya team visited the boys and girls of the Mercy Children’s Home they helped contribute to something bigger than themselves, they helped those who were in need. Bringing supplies and basic necessities but moreover showing these children that there are people out there that care about their well being that WE CARE. Joy and appreciation could be seen across the smiling faces on all that joined in.
